What this calculator does
It applies HMRC’s simplified-expense rates to the business miles you enter. The result can reduce taxable self-employed profit when the method is available. It does not calculate Income Tax saved, decide whether a journey qualifies or replace a mileage log.
Important vehicle-method rules
- You cannot use simplified mileage for a vehicle after claiming capital allowances for it or including it as an expense in the relevant way.
- Once flat rates are used for a vehicle, they must generally continue while it remains in the business.
- Fuel, insurance, repairs and servicing cannot be added to simplified mileage.
- Business parking, tolls and other travel can be considered separately.
Why bicycles are not offered
HMRC’s simplified-expense table for self-employed people lists cars, goods vehicles and motorcycles. It does not provide a bicycle rate. Employee mileage rules are separate and should not be used here.
Mileage calculator FAQs
Does the 10,000-mile band restart for each app?
No. It applies to the qualifying mileage in the relevant business calculation, not separately to Uber Eats, Deliveroo, Just Eat or Amazon Flex.
Does the result include fuel?
Yes. The flat rate represents vehicle costs including fuel, so fuel is not added again.
Can employees use this calculator?
It is designed for self-employed simplified expenses. Employee mileage allowance relief uses separate rules.
